Tell Me MoreTonight sees a major theatre event on Broadway, when one of the most eagerly-anticipated new musical productions, Tammy Faye, opens at the Palace Theatre on 47th Street – including, among its stellar creative team, sound design by Autograph’s own Nick Lidster.
With music by none other than Elton John, Tammy Faye tells the story of Tammy Faye Messner, who became a well-known Christian evangelist, television celebrity and gay icon as the wife of high-profile preacher (and eventually convicted fraudster) Jim Bakker. The show, which debuted at London’s Almeida Theatre in 2022 (with sound design by Bobby Aitken) enjoyed a sold-out run and collected two Olivier Awards.
It’s fair to say that, as part of this exciting new production, Autograph’s Olivier Award-winning sound designer Nick Lidster is in very fine theatrical company. Not only does this show boast music from the legendary Elton John (winner of more awards than it would be sensible to try to list here), but the director (Rupert Goold – artistic director of London’s Almeida Theatre), the playwright (James Graham), lighting designer (Neil Austin), video designer (Finn Ross) and set designer (Bunny Christie) are all Olivier Award winners.
What’s more, the lyrics to Elton’s music have been penned by another rock-star, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters.
Described as “riotously entertaining” by Variety, this promises to be a big hit on Broadway . . . Find out more here.
