Scott (Wookie) started his Autograph Sound career in the service department before taking on the daunting task of heading the Hire Division in 2002. He joined the board of Autograph Sound in 2015, and then in 2017 reached the dizzy heights of Managing Director. Scott has the enviable role of overseeing the innovators, designers, creators, engineers, developers and philosophers of Autograph Sound and guiding them all towards a place of enlightenment.
Scott is an avid sportsman and dedicated family man. He is one of the quietest members of the company; sometimes we just don’t know he is amongst us!
Before joining Autograph Sound, Scott was a sound operator on Starlight Express and Smokey Joes Café in the West End. Before that, he was a Welder!
Scott is married to Samantha and they have two children, Molly and Joe.
TJ joined Autograph Sound in 1989, having previously worked as a Sound Operator and in Stage Management.
In 2000, he was appointed Managing Director, and then in 2017 took on the role of Chairman of the Autograph Sound group of companies. When not engaged in running the business or sound designing, he is to be found watching his beloved Manchester United or talking rubbish in the pavilion at The Oval.
Terry’s sound designs for Autograph include many worldwide productions of Les Misérables, Cats (UK tour, Zurich, Antwerp and European tour), the Canadian productions of The Music Man, Man of La Mancha and The Pajama Game, The Card in the UK and Moscow and Candide in Copenhagen. He also designed the Canadian Opera Company production of Béatrice et Bénédict in Toronto.
He designed The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for the RSC in Stratford and Sadlers Wells, Peter Pan and The Pirates of Penzance at the Savoy Theatre, and Guys And Dolls UK tour.
In the West End, he designed The Rocky Horror Show, She Loves Me, Romance Romance, Fame, Crazy for You, The Pajama Game, Stepping Out – The Musical, The Secret Garden, Grand Hotel (Donmar), Lend Me A Tenor The Musical, Sinatra, and Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly Theatre, for which he received an Olivier Best Sound Design nomination in 2006.
At the Royal Festival Hall, he has designed Follies and On Your Toes.
His co-designs with Nick Lidster include A Model Girl in Greenwich; the Donmar productions of Parade (for which they received an Olivier nomination), Passion and Spelling Bee; the UK tour of Sinatra; the English National Opera production of Candide; the Old Vic production of Cinderella; Imagine This (New London Theatre); Lend Me A Tenor The Musical (Plymouth Theatre Royal & Gielgud Theatre); Finding Neverland (Leicester Curve); Privates On Parade (Noel Coward Theatre); A Chorus Line (London Palladium), Urinetown (St James Theatre & Apollo Shaftesbury), City of Angels (Donmar Warehouse), The Girls (Phoenix Theatre), The Band (UK tour) and City Of Angels (Garrick Theatre).
He also designed the UK tours of Avenue Q, Spamalot, Elf, BIG and Shrek with Avgoustos Psillas – and, with Niamh Gaffney, The Producers (Menier Chocolate Factory).
TJ is married to Natalie and they have varying degrees of responsibility for 1 x Michael, 1 x James and 2 x Harrys.
Andrew is the Founder and owner of Autograph Sound and one of the early frontiersmen in theatre sound. Over the years, he has worked tirelessly to enhance and further the role of the Sound Designer in modern theatre. He has also worked tirelessly on his pruning! His gardening skills are the stuff of legend and he is quick to offer advice on any aspect of the horticultural endeavour.
After an early false start as a photographer, Andrew began his career in theatre at the Glyndebourne Festival Opera in 1968. When everyone else of his age was heading for Woodstock in 1969, he was moving up from the Sussex countryside to the Royal Opera House, where he was promoted to Head of Sound in 1971. A year later he co-founded Autograph Sound Recording and turned his back on the world of subsidised theatre for 30 years.
His specialist work in musicals arose from close involvement in several of the landmarks of British musical theatre such as Evita, Cats and Starlight Express.
In 1981 he was appointed Sound Consultant on the original Paris version of Les Misérables and went on to design the sound for the 1985 London production, and all other productions worldwide.
His other credits include the original West End productions of Song and Dance, Abbacadabra, Little Me, Chess, Follies, Into the Woods, Children of Eden, City of Angels, Martin Guerre, The Fix, The Witches of Eastwick, Mamma Mia!, Miss Saigon, 125th Street, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Mary Poppins, the RSC’s production of The Secret Garden, The Valkyries for English National Opera, Sweeney Todd for the Royal Opera, and Seven Deadly Sins and Isadora for the Royal Ballet.
In Autumn of 2009, in collaboration with Nick Lidster, he designed the National Theatre’s production of Mother Courage and her Children, receiving an Olivier nomination.
He recently designed The Drowsy Chaperone at the Gatehouse Theatre, Alice’s Adventures In Wonderland at the Royal Opera House and Daddy Long Legs (St James Theatre).
When not toiling on the land, he has, since 2002, been deeply involved in helping DiGiCo to develop theatre-specific software for their digital sound consoles. In 2023 his contribution to the development of sound for theatre was recognised by way of an Olivier Award.
Andrew is married to the actress Siobhán McCarthy, and they have two adults, Kieran and Juliet.
Andrew Hedges has been with us since 2006 and has brilliantly fulfilled several roles since then. He has a degree in Audio Engineering and Electronics and before joining us he worked at the Sandpit Theatre freelance, based from his hometown of St Albans.
As our shop representative he looked after We Will Rock You (UK tour), Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (UK tour), Speaking With Tongues (Duke Of York’s Theatre), Waiting For Godot (Haymarket Theatre), Mamma Mia! (Spanish tour), Mamma Mia! (Essen), Mamma Mia! (Paris), Ghost (Manchester & London), Rock of Ages, Mamma Mia! (Rome) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.
As a Production Sound Engineer and Assistant PSE his credits included Oliver! (Theatre Royal Drury Lane), Jersey Boys (Prince Edward Theatre), Legally Blonde (Savoy Theatre) Parade (Donmar Warehouse), Swimming With Sharks (Vaudeville Theatre), Avenue Q (Gielgud Theatre), Little Voice (Vaudeville Theatre), La Bête (Comedy Theatre), Pygmalion (Garrick Theatre), Mamma Mia! (Aarhus), Ragtime and A Midsummer Night’s Dream (Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre), Mamma Mia! (Novello move), Mamma Mia! (Moscow), From Here to Eternity (Shaftesbury Theatre), Wolf Hall/Bring up the Bodies (Aldwych Theatre) and Urinetown (Apollo Theatre).
Not content to rest on his very considerable laurels, in 2017 Andrew started the Autograph Events Department. This sees him spearheading a new division of the company that has since delivered the Autograph touch to numerous occasions of all sorts, from brand activations and car launches to society weddings and outdoor immersive theatre. Their latest projects include work with Es Devlin, Warwick Castle and Battersea Power Station.
Luke is a graduate of Guildhall School of Music and Drama, graduating in stage management and technical theatre whilst specialising in sound. Before joining Autograph, some time ago, Luke worked at the Barbican Centre in their theatre sound team.
Luke started his life at Autograph in the Hire Store as shop representative before moving to the Digital Department where he spent several years as a Technical Support Engineer. He is now, however, a fully paid-up member of the sound designer’s club.
Luke’s experience covers a wide range of theatre, musicals, and events. However, he specialises in immersive and site-specific work and is often found lurking in dark, wet and cold venues all over London! As well as providing the creative sound design for this style of work, Luke is also a show control programmer, providing the technical solutions to run these often-complex technical shows.
Since 2016 Luke has been sound designer and head of sound for Secret Cinema, taking responsibility for all audio requirements for their ground-breaking productions. His credits for Secret Cinema include Guardians of the Galaxy, Bridgerton, Stranger Things (London and US), Casino Royale (China & US) and Dirty Dancing (London & US tour).
Other immersive theatre credits include Peaky Blinders: The Rise and Dr Who: Time Fracture for Immersive Everywhere; Monopoly Lifesized (worldwide), Saw: The Escape Experience and The Paddington Bear Experience (City Hall) for The Path Entertainment Group; and Come Alive! The Greatest Showman Circus Spectacular (immersive production).
Back in the more conventional theatre environment, Luke’s credits include TRAPLORD (Sadler’s Wells/180 Strand), Pride & Prejudice* (*sort of) (West End), Parade (Other Palace), Shakespeare’s Rose Theatre (Blenheim Palace), The Full Monty (UK tour) and Big Fish (Other Palace).
As associate sound designer, his credits include The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time (Gielgud Theatre, International tour & USA), Shrek (UK tour), The Girls (Leeds & Salford), The Elephant Man (West End), Sweeney Todd (ENO) and Kiss Me Kate (tour).
Luke lists driving tests as one of his special skills: he’s so good at them he took 7! What he lacks in driving skills he makes up for in email writing: Luke has won the Autograph “who can write the longest email” tournament every year for the past 5 years!
Simon is a member of our fast-growing department that specialises in the sort of technology that causes the average Joe’s head to spin. The world of digital cleverness is his domain, and we must take his word that he knows what he is talking about – it’s all smoke and mirrors to the rest of us mere mortals.
Before joining us, Simon graduated from LAMDA (he completed their Stage Management and Technical Theatre course) and worked as a sound operator on productions such as Legally Blonde, Cabaret, Top Hat, Once, I Can’t Sing, Matilda and The Lorax.
When not being incredibly clever here at Autograph he spends his time being exceedingly average at DIY at home. As if there isn’t enough of it at work, he can often be found tinkering with computers on his own time. Simon is also an avid Sci-Fi fan (who would have guessed?).
Matt joined us as a Hire Store Technician having studied Events Management at Sheffield University and working for several events companies. Being rather good at what he did it didn’t take long for him to be promoted to Hire Store Manager, a job he filled with consummate ease
Having had enough of being consummately at ease in that role he took up the slightly more challenging role of running our Radio Frequency Department. No easy task keeping track of over 1000 units of radio transmitter/receiver equipment, not including hundreds of units of radio communications. His organisational talent has been tested to the max with no obvious outward signs of stress: a calmer person you couldn’t hope to meet.
Calmness perhaps instilled in him due to his hobbies of vinyl collecting (yes, vinyl), golf (why ruin a good walk?) and cricket (golf without the nerve tingling excitement)!
Rob is the head of the Digital Department, the department that is on the cutting edge of the incredibly sophisticated equipment we use. A former production engineer and operator, Rob has been pivotal in setting up this vital department. With his colleague, Skippy, Rob is a keen fencer and cricket fan, they make for interesting “friends” during an Ashes series!
Before joining Autograph Rob operated or engineered the following productions:
As Production Engineer: Our House (Cambridge Theatre), Taboo (UK Tour), Journey’s End (Comedy Theatre/Playhouse Theatre), Mother Clap’s Molly House (Aldwych Theatre), The Coast of Utopia (National Theatre), The Oresteia (National Theatre), Abigail’s Party (West End/UK tour), Mum’s The Word (Albery Theatre).
As Designer: The Mysteries (co-design, National Theatre), Three Days of Rain (Donmar Warehouse), Baiju Bawra (co-design, Theatre Royal Stratford East), Life After George (co-design, Duchess Theatre), God Only Knows (co-design, UK tour/Vaudeville Theatre), Alarms (Buenos Aires), Channel 4 Sitcom Festival (Riverside Studios) and Keepers (Hampstead Theatre).
As Operator: Into The Woods (Donmar Warehouse), Merrily We Roll Along (Donmar Warehouse), Enter The Guardsman (Donmar Warehouse), Alarms And Excursions (UK tour/Gielgud Theatre), Richard II / Coriolanus (Almeida at Gainsborough Studios), Caucasian Chalk Circle (international tour), ESC production of Beowulf (UK tour), Invention of Love (National Theatre), Closer (National Theatre), Othello (National Theatre), Hamlet (National Theatre), Chips with Everything (National Theatre), Darker Face of the Earth (National Theatre), The Merchant of Venice (National Theatre), The Winter’s Tale (National Theatre), Miss Julie (Young Vic) and Long Day’s Journey Into Night (Young Vic).
Rob headed up our essential contribution to the Olympic Games Opening and Closing Ceremonies, ensuring that all things digital were of a gold medal standard.
Rob is married to Lucy and they have two children, Amelia and Charlie.
